When you drive through Wakeman, Ohio and pass a large farm, you'd be remiss to think there's anything abnormal going on. However, when you pass by a large farm and there's a mass if guests hanging out around the massive barn? Well then you'd be driving by Kilkerrin on a Saturday night! Kilkerrin Barn is an 1830, hand built barn that was once used for milking, but now is used to host incredible celebrations of all types.
Sitting right off of Route 20 on Fitchville River Rd. in Wakeman, Ohio, this barn is the most unassuming thing you'd pass by unless you knew what to look for. The barn itself has two large rooms that have large doors connecting them. In one room, which is around 30'x60', you can have anything from a great dance floor to plenty of room for catering, or even a perfect spot to have your ceremony. In the other, plenty of room to seat up to a couple hundred people. With original touches like an old, stone fireplace and a large barn doors that let in natural lighting, it makes for a great indoor location.
The indoors isn't all there is, however. The property really sets this place apart. Sitting on an acre-sized pond, with a large silo and patio on the back of the barn, sitting outside and enjoying drinks during cocktail hour is really what makes this place stand out.
One of the best things about having your ceremony in front of the barn doors is some of the incredible photos that can come from it. By having your photographer stand behind the wall of the barn and shoot through the doors, you can get photos of you looking at each other, sharing in each moment of the ceremony without the photographer being a distraction to the guests.
There's also a smaller building on premises with rooms for you and your wedding party to get ready, making this a great venue for a small all-in-one location for everything related to your wedding. That's why it's on our list of top venues.

The Sandusky Yacht Club is a beautiful venue no matter what time of year. That's extremely evident based off of how awesome Cody & Laura's wedding turned out! They set their wedding date in early January for a knockout wedding day all centered around the Sandusky Yacht Club! They took photos at Patina Creek, which is only a few miles away, and then returned to the Yacht Club shortly after for their indoor ceremony. After the ceremony, they rearranged the seating for their big party!
One thing I loved about this wedding was the subtle theming of star wars. Cody absolutely loves Star Wars, and so Laura thought it would be really fun to get some little Star Wars touches for her husband, such as adding Lego figures to the boutonnieres, or an additional R2-D2 side-cake. At the end of the night, we had to step outside for a KILLER shot using lightsabers overlooking the Sandusky Bay. Talk about a great way to end the night!
This wedding was actually one of the most difficult weddings for me to get to! We were in Cincinnati the night before and had to drive to Sandusky in a snow storm. What is normally a 3.5 hour drive took us over 7 hours to complete due to the intense snow and total lack of visibility. But, we didn't let it stop us! We wanted to make sure we were there for our couples, and I'm so glad we didn't miss this one.
The Yacht club is one of our all time favorite venues! It can easily accommodate up to 300 guests along its window-covered walls overlooking the Sandusky Bay, making it one of the most gorgeous venues in the area. We even wrote about it in our Ultimate Guide for having a wedding in the Sandusky Area. Interested in having your wedding there? Click here.
